The mayor of Shanghai pledged to restore a historic synagogue by next year. Han Zheng made the pledge in a meeting last week with Rabbi Arthur Schneier, president of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation. Schneier’s meeting with the Shanghai mayor was one of several he held with top Chinese officials during a weeklong visit to China.
