The monthly consumer price index rose only 0.2 percent during July. The official figure, released Friday, was much less than government and independent analysts had predicted. The Central Bureau of Statistics attributed the low inflation rate to substantial drops in the prices of fruit and vegetables, and of clothing, during July. The July figure means that employers will not have to pay a cost-of-living increment until at least November.
