The new restrictions on Jewish emigration from the USSR, especially severe in the Ukraine which is the seat of the majority of the current applicants, is reflected in January’s exit of 2803, according to the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry. The figure is 30 percent below that of December. There is usually a dip in the January total, the SSSJ said, but never as severe.
