The New York Road Runners Club turned down a request from Jewish leaders in Brooklyn to ban an Austrian far-right leader from participating in next month’s New York City Marathon. In response to the refusal to bar Jorg Haider, whose Freedom Party earned 27 percent of the vote in Austrian parliamentary elections earlier this month, New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind threatened to confront Haider during the Nov. 7 race.
