The newspaper Le Figaro reported Monday that Egypt recently expelled 13 Soviet Air Force officers accused of slurring the Egyptian army. According to the newspaper’s Cairo correspondent. Thierry Desjardins, the officers who served in Alexandria’s anti-aircraft defenses made the disparaging remarks during a dinner party. Another consequence of the incident was the replacement of the Soviet Consul General in Alexandria, Desjardins reported. He stated that an American woman present at the party was arrested and is still being held. The expulsion of the Soviet officers was the first known incident of its kind since Soviet personnel arrived in Egypt after the Six-Day War, Desjardins reported.
