The original Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, on Mt. Scopus, was reopened Sunday and received its first 25 patients in a brief ceremony. The hospital, which was not used from 1949 to 1967, is being refurbished and substantially enlarged. It will become the main medical center for the Jewish and Arab districts in the eastern part of Jerusalem. The entire hospital will be opened in a series of three stages over the next few months. The total cost of its rebuilding will exceed $40 million. Another $7 million will be spent on new equipment. The U.S. government has contributed about one-third of the latter sum.
