The outspokenly anti-Israel Respect Party narrowly defended its Parliament seat in a heavily Muslim borough of east London.
In a midterm election in Tower Hamlets, the Respect Party retained its seat by only 97 votes, losing nearly 7 percent of its constituency to the Labor Party since the last election. Several anti-Israel motions were passed at the Respect Party’s national conference last October, including support for a boycott of Israeli goods and services, tourism to Israel, and of academic, sporting and cultural links with Israeli bodies.
