The Palestinian Authority president pressed for early elections. Mahmoud Abbas made the call Monday following violations of a truce declared late Sunday night between his Fatah party and the governing Hamas faction. The cease-fire was declared after a flare-up of sectarian violence in the Gaza Strip and West Bank over the weekend left three Palestinians dead and at least 15 wounded.
