The Palestinian Authority prime minister fired 250 imams and shut down 110 charities for affiliating with Hamas. Salam Fayyad dismissed the preachers and cut off the charities over the past few weeks, according to officials of the American Task Force on Palestine who returned from a West Bank tour last week. Soon after he took office this summer, Fayyad, a moderate backed by the United States and Israel, had warned imams to tone down jihadist rhetoric or face firing.
