The Palestinian representative to the United Nations asked the U.N. Security Council to press Israel to stop construction for Jewish housing at two sites in Jerusalem. The Security Council should take “immediate action” to stop the building begun last week at Har Homa and Ras al-Amud, Nasser al-Kidwa wrote in a May 20 letter. On Saturday, the Palestinian Authority appealed to Israeli Prime Minister-elect Ehud Barak to stop the construction, approved by outgoing Premier Benjamin Netanyahu days before last week’s Israeli elections.
