The population of Israel at the beginning of the New Year stood at 3,968,000, the Central Bureau of Statistics announced. Of this number, 3,315,000 are Jews and 653,000 non-Jews. The Bureau reported that the population increased by 68,000 in the past year, an increase of 1.8 percent compared to 2.1 percent during the previous year.
