The press here featured the Fey interview as an anti-Semitic sensation, and interpreted the Vice-Chancellor’s declaration as an intention to introduce the numerus clausus against the Jews in all branches of Austrian life, because the national minority status is tantamount to numerus clausus.
Major Fey promptly denied the correctness of the interpretations and stated that all he said was that the Jewish problem does not exist in Austria, but that if it should arise, his solution was national minority status for the Jews, with all minority rights.
The Austrian Vice-Chancellor disclaimed any other pronouncements contained in the alleged interview.
