The Chronicle of Philanthropy last week released the “Philanthropy 400,” its ranking of the top 400 charities in the United States. The Jewish groups appearing on this year’s list, which looks at fund raising in fiscal year 2004, raised over $2 billion. Here they are in the order in which they appeared, with the amount in private funds raised:

No. 42: The United Jewish Communities, down from 25, with $251,931,000 raised in private funds; No. 60: The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, down from 54; raised $196,669,339;

No. 82: The Jewish Communal Fund, up from 103, raised $165,623,656;

No. 83: The UJA-Federation of New York, down from 74, raised $165,469,000;

No. 133: The Jewish Federation/Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago, down from 86, raised $110,469,775;

No. 153: Jewish Community Foundation (Los Angeles), up from 369; raised $98,371,284;

No. 177: Jewish Community Foundation (San Diego), did not appear on last year’s list; raised $87,693,163;

No. 183: Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, down from 145; raised $84,473,164;

No. 192: Yeshiva University, up from 355; raised $79,178,947;

No. 202: Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland, up from 304; raised $76,288,583

No. 215: Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties, up from 229; raised $70,725,509;

No. 229: the P.E.F. Israel Endowment Funds, up from 282; raised $65,073,739;

No. 237: United Jewish Foundation and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, up from No. 268; raised $63,229,808;

No. 238: Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, up from No. 248; raised $63,058,417;

No. 239: Brandeis University, down from 192; raised $61,870,000;

No. 243: The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, up from 247; raised $60,894,776;

No. 247: The American Society for Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, down from 215; raised $60,478,268;

No. 263: The American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science, up from 276; raised $56,366,000;

No. 277: Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, down from 249; raised $52,757,267;

No. 292: United Jewish Communities of MetroWest, up from No. 335; raised $50,224,927;

No. 302: Anti-Defamation League, down from 273; raised $47,994,869;

No. 315: Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, which did not appear on last year’s list; raised $46,309,638;

No. 325: International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, up from 337; raised $44,122,841;

No. 357: American Jewish Committee, up from 367; raised $40,071,050;

No. 389: Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, down from 383; raised $35,994,257;

No. 391: The Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS (New York arm), which appears for the first time; raised $35,847,780.
