The rate of circumcision in the United States is decreasing, even as evidence suggests that it may protect against HIV infection, the Los Angeles Times reported. Some 55.9 percent of baby boys born in the United States in 2003 were circumcised, as opposed to 63.5 percent in 1993, though the rate of circumcision of Jewish boys is believed to be higher than in the general population.
