Although we on the lower East Side have offered to place all out facilities at the command of the Authority, after presenting three housing studies on February 14, we are no further advanced today than before the Authority was created.
They declined our help, after praising our efforts two months ago. They are discriminating against the lower East Side since Comptroller Cunningham died. They have no project approve. They have put no people in the building trades to work. They have shown a complete lack of leadership in the unemployment emergency we still face and there are no visible indications that the actual use of the federal funds this summer in assured.
Where else in America can you find a municipal agency in as strange a position as the New York City Housing Authority, with $25,000,000 of housing funds available and a growing need for unemployment relief ?
