The Reform movement will inaugurate a new summer program for autistic children and their families. In August the Union for Reform Judaism will provide a five-day camping experience for the children at the Greene Family Camp in Bruceville, Texas. The program, Camp Simcha, will incorporate waterfront and adventure activities, sports, music, crafts, Israeli dancing and song sessions. Over the past few years there has been a growing understanding of the needs of children on the autism spectrum, said Lisa David, associate director of camping for URJ Camps. While we ve had programs for autistic children before, Camp Simcha is the first program for autistic children and their families.
