The Rothschild family has filed suit in Supreme Court here to save American assets of its Vienna bank from confiscation by the German Nazi Government. The suit, for $3,260,183.85, was filed by Baron Eugene de Rothschild, head of the Paris branch of the family, against his brother, Baron Louis von Rothschild of Vienna, and the Viennese banking firm of S.M. von Rothschild.
Supreme Court Justice Frankenthaler has issued a writ of attachment which has been served on several of the city’s largest banks, tying up all funds of the Vienna bank on deposit with them. The complaint in the action charges that the $3,260,183.85 represents money and securities which Baron Eugene had on deposit in his brother’s bank on March 10, the day of the Austrian annexation.
