The Royal Canadian Mint has been commissioned by the Israel government to strike three commemorative silver and gold coins which will be issued to mark Israel’s 33rd Independence Day. The coins are based on the theme “The People of the Book,” referring both to the connection with the original books of the Old Testament, as well as modern achievements in Hebrew publishing and printing. The coins carry on the obverse the face value and the state emblem, with the word Israel in Hebrew, English and Arabic, and the date, 5741 according to the Jewish calendar.
