The Rumanian Supreme Court rejected an appeal yesterday against a death sentence imposed on Metropolitan Visarion Puiu, who “was convicted by the People’s Tribunal as a war regime.
Puiu was charged with encouraging and supporting “terrorist measures against Jewish deportees” during the pro-Nazi Puiu, who was appointed head of the Transnistrian Orthodox Church by Premier on Antonescu, is now reportedly living in an Italian monastery. His appeal was re-lived here through the Rumanian legation in Rome.
