Tonight at the Casino Theatre, where the Russian Opera is holding forth, Alexandre Tcherephine’s one-act opera of Russian student life, “01-01” will be sung. It is the first time that this modern works, which is fast finding its place in the repertory of the leading European opera houses, will be seen on an American stage. Because it deals with the Russian brand of pre-Soviet Bohemianism it has been compared with the Italian “La Boheme.” Milo Milo radovich, American born daughter of a Russian nobleman will sing the title role and Alexander Steinert will conduct.
“01-01” will be the second part of a double bill. To start the evening Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanthe” will be presented. It is believed that this will be the New York promier of this last of Tchaikov-sky’s operas. It was first sung in this country last September at Scarsborough, and many of the same singers in the cast will be heard again tonght. Eugen Plotnikoff, who was a cellist in the or chestra upon its first performance in Moscow in 1893, will conduct.
