The small community of Hofgeismar near the town of Kassel in Hesse has opened a Jewish department in a local museum which largely concentrates on documenting the history of the area. Jews lived in Hofgeismar and in neighboring communities from 1356 through 1933. Today, no Jews are known to live in this remote, mainly agricultural area.
