Communication to the Editor

Sir:

With reference to your despatch from Jerusalem concerning the danger of closing now faced by the Bezalel School, permit to me say the following:-In April. 1928, the Order Sons of Zion undertook to reopen the Bezalel School and to contribute to it $6,000 for the year commencing May 1, 1928, and expiring May 1, 1929. The object in mind was to raise the aforesaid fund from the Zionists and sympathizers of the Bezalel School, for the Order has no funds for that purpose.

With that in mind, a representative of the Order formed a committee of Zionists and sympathizers with a view of raising the necessary funds to reimburse the Order for its advances. It appears, however, that the committee did not succeed. To date, $6,000 has been advanced by the Order to the Bezalel School, but only about $2,000 has been collected, so that with the amount advanced and disbursements incurred, the Order sustained a loss during the year of about $5,000. In view of the aforesaid condition, the Order found it advisable not to renew the arrangement, and Professor Schatz was advi-1 accordingly.

It is regrettable. However, the Order stands ready to cooperate with any group who is interested in the Bezalel Art School.

Very truly yours,

Max Perlman.

Nasi, Order Sons of Zion.
