The Soviet representative on the UN Human Rights Commission called Wednesday for the “eradication of racism, colonialism and Zionism” and drew a sharp retort from Israel. Yaacov Morris, a spokesman for the Israeli UN Mission, declared that “To mention Zionism in the same breath with colonialism and racism is cheap propaganda and a travesty of historical truth.” Morris said that “it was apparent that the Soviet representative (Igor K. Kolosovsky), had sought by his virulent anti-Zionist statement to divert the attention of the Human Rights Commission from the manner in which human rights are treated in his country.”
