The Supreme Court has agreed to determine the constitutionality of the phrase “one nation, under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. The high court announced that it will hear Elk Grove Unified School District v. Newdow, in which the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last year that the phrase violated the separation of church and state and therefore could not be mandated in public schools.
