The surviving Jewish population in Safed, 3,000 strong, today faces starvation. Water and bread are lacking. Attempts have been made to bring supplies from Tiberias and Haifa.

Another incident occurred Friday in Jerusalem. An Arab passing through a Jewish crowd on his way to the German Hospital picked a quarrel with a Jewish passerby. Anticipating an attack, one of the crowd shot and killed the Arab.

Suggestions for a rapprochement between the Jews and the Moslems were made on the initiative of prominent Arab circles in Jerusalem today. The Zionist Executive decided to ask the National Council of Palestine Jews to inquire into the situation and to see whether these proposals are made in good faith.

The National Council of Palestine Jews on Friday afternoon issued another proclamation to the Jewish population urging calm.

Reports continue to reach this city of growing unrest in Transjordania.
