The Swiss Federal Council today informed the Netherlands, in reply to its proposal for a common demarche on the refugee situation, that Switzerland was in no position to receive large numbers of Jewish refugees from Germany but that it would not close the frontiers completely, receiving individual applications. The Council emphasized that in any case Switzerland could be only a temporary refuge because of an already large foreign population, unemployment and its geographical position.
