The timetable for achieving a final Israeli-Palestinian peace accord is too optimistic, according to the Israel Defense Force chief of staff. “I don’t think that a conflict of 30 or 50 years can be resolved in a month or two, and not even in a year or two,” Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz told the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. Israel and the Palestinian Authority have agreed to complete the final-status talks, which began this week, by September 2000.
