The U.S. government banned American companies from taking certain high- resolution satellite images of Israel, according to State Department officials. They said Israel feared the high-resolution pictures could fall into the hands of its enemies. Israel is the only country involved in the ban on pictures taken by new “1-meter” resolution cameras, which have the ability to identify from space objects as small as a box of rifles.
