The U.S. government will closely watch how much the world Jewish community donates to development efforts in the Negev and the Galilee as it weighs its own financial contribution, Shimon Peres said. “The U.S. administration has said it is prepared to help development in the Negev and Galilee and will monitor closely how committed the Jewish community is in this regard,” Israel’s vice premier said in a meeting Tuesday with top officials of the Jewish Agency for Israel.
