The U.S. House of Representatives is considering a bill that would require the Bush administration to judge whether Palestinians are observing peace agreements with Israel, and if not, impose sanctions against the Palestinian Authority. The bill, championed by Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.), would add teeth to State Department reports that assess the Palestinians’ actions, but do not make judgments and do not suggest U.S. responses.
