The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly defeated a resolution on Tuesday calling for Americans to observe a national day of prayer and fasting in response to recent school violence. The measure, sponsored by Rep. Helen Chenoweth (R-Idaho), failed to win the two-thirds majority needed for passage under special rules designed to speed passage of non-controversial bills through the House.
