The U.S. Senate unanimously urged the Bush administration to designate the Al-Manar television station as a terrorist organization. The measure, sponsored by Sens. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) and Gordon Smith (R-Ore.), passed late last week. The State Department already has placed the Hezbollah-affiliated broadcaster on the terrorist exclusion list, which restricts its ability to operate or broadcast in the United States. Placing it on the foreign terrorist organization list would allow U.S. authorities to seize the broadcasters’ U.S. funds and initiate prosecutions.
