The U.S. State Department downplayed expectations for next week’s visit to Israel by U.S. Middle East envoy Dennis Ross. State Department spokesman James Rubin stressed at a news briefing that while Ross is expected to meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, the primary purpose of his visit is to fulfill a commitment to speak at a peace institute named for former Prime Minister Shimon Peres.
