The UNESCO General Assembly Tuesday adopted an Arab-sponsored resolution calling upon Israel to observe the status quo in Jerusalem and “not to change the character of the city.” The resolution was adopted by a vote of 58-6. A number of amendments presented by the United States, Holland and Brazil trying to tone down the original resolution were turned down. A number of resolutions presented by the Soviet Union, Ukraine and Byelorussia condemning Zionism as “a form of racism” were withdrawn.
