The Union of American Hebrew Congregations Board of Trustees has endorsed a plan to convene a Blue Ribbon panel to probe the causes of the Watergate scandal in order to determine the basis for “this nation’s moral disorder” and to make recommendations for restoring “ethical standards” in our society. The 180-member board acted after Rabbi Maurice N. Eisendrath, UAHC president, charged that blame for the Watergate disaster must be assigned in part to the “shameful silence” of Christian and Jewish religious groups, the “craven” Congress and a “slumbering narcotized American people.”
