The United States asked Israel to stop its attacks on suspected Palestinian militants, according to the Israeli daily Ha’aretz. In a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, however, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said he intends to continue the policy as part of Israel’s right to self- defense.
