The United States welcomed an Israeli-Palestinian agreement to work toward creating a lasting peace. The “meeting and agreement constitute an important first step forward to restoring the trust and confidence and changing the situation on the ground that would benefit both the Palestinians and the Israelis,” White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said.
