The Vatican will slow down the process of making Pope Pius XII a saint, according to an official with the World Jewish Congress. At the same time, said WJC Executive Director Elan Steinberg, the Roman Catholic Church is moving actively to beatify Pope John XXII. Unlike Pius, who is criticized for his failure to speak out against the Holocaust and has been recently accused of being anti-Semitic, John is remembered fondly by Jews.
