The Vienna Philharmonic is scheduled to play a concert next May at the site of the Mauthausen concentration camp. The concert is being seen as the beginning of the country’s attempt to face up to its support for the Nazis during World War II. Members of the philharmonic failed to protest when their fellow Jewish members were expelled in 1938, nor did they respond when six were sent to concentration camps and killed.
