The Wisconsin state legislature adopted a resolution censuring S. B. Ballard, state superintendent of public buildings, for his letter to State Treasurer Sol Levitan. The Assembly also ordered Ballard’s resignation. Ballard, however, refused to resign. He is said to be affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan.

The matter is causing much discussion throughout the state.

Sol Levitan, who was first elected state treasurer in 1918, is very popular in Wisconsin, where he is called “Honest Sol.” the population remembering him as an immigrant boy who came to Wiscousin as a peddler. His popularity is evident from the election returns. While in 1918 he received 31,000 votes, he was elected in 1922 by a vote of 240,000. In the last election he received more votes than Governor Zimmerman.
