The World Jewish Congress is calling on French banks to establish a fund for Holocaust victims and their heirs. The WJC’s latest initiative comes after a dozen leading German companies agreed this week to create a fund to address Holocaust-era claims. French banking officials did not rule out the creation of such a fund. But if one was established, they said, it would be done in conjunction with French Jewish leaders, not with the U.S.-based WJC.
