The Zionist Federation today sent a message to the Jews of Israel pledging the maximum support of South African Jewry, and looking forward to South African recognition of Israel, it was reported here today.
The statement urged “friendly relations between the South African Government and the government of the new state in economic as well as political spheres.” Special services were held in the synagogues, together with mass rallies in Johannesburg and elsewhere.
