A play in three acte and Six scenes by Merton Hodge, Staged by Waleer Hart; setting by philip Gelb; produced by George Kondolf and Mr. Hart, At the Ritz Theatre.
YORNG student who leaves A home for the first time to study medicine at Edinburgh University is the reason for this little play, the work of a Scotch physician. Not only is the audience treated to a peek at life among medical students but there is also unfolded the story of this young man’s conflict with life and love. It seems that he has been dominated by one of those strong-minded hirls and by his mother. However, he is not completely cowed and when he meets Ann love comes bursting on the stage and with it a new strength of character for the hero, However, after he receives his medical degree he returns home prepared to marry the “Strong” one but he finds that life without Ann is a useless thing and the last scene frnds them reunited again and about to live happily ever after.
The play is sincere, well-acted and shallow. The whole thing is so thin that you wonder thy it was ever brought over to this country. The English cast is as well-mannered and as annoyingly calm as only an English cast can be. Frank Lawton as the sensitive young student does, however, give a grand performance.
