There was an increase during 1997 in the scope of trade moving from the self- rule areas to Israel, Israel’s Cabinet was told. The number of Palestinian businessmen and merchants entering Israel doubled from the previous year and currently stands at 12,000. The number of trucks entering Israel from the self- rule areas last year reached 15,000, up from 12,000 in 1996.
