They call him the “Babe Ruth” of the colleges and he has earned the title. He is Sidney Weiss, of Long Island City, a graduate of Brooklyn Prep and second baseman of the Lafayette College baseball team.
During the last six games, Weiss hit a home run in each game, believed to be a college record. The home runs were hit in two games against Lehigh, two against Rutgers, against Ursinus and Haverford.
Weiss is leading hitter on the team and a good infielder. It is known that the several trips which Paul Kritchell, Yankee scout, made to Easton were intended for investigation of Weiss’ ability.
Weiss is a Junior this year and will probably be elected captain of the team for next season.
