The Jewish community of Philadelphia will be asked to contribute the sum of $100,000 to the support of the $2,000,000 campaign of the Wider Scope Committee of the Independent Order B’nai Brith.
This was decided at the closing session of the twenty-first biennial Convention of District No. 3 of the Order here.
The sum of $100,000 is part of a total of $325,000 which the four states which comprise the district will be asked to contribute. The organization of the campaign in the District is to take place during next month under the leadership of Joseph L. Kun, chairman of the Wider Scope Movement in the District. The quota for Pennsylvania is $200,000. The remaining sum is to be contributed by New Jersey, Delaware, and West Virginia, whose quotas respectively are $75,000, $20,000 and $30,000.
The delegates to the convention contributed $41,000 to the quota for the district. The largest contributions were from Jacob Singer $5,000, Joseph H. Salus $3,000, Joseph L. Kun $1,200, David Bortin $1,000.
The Convention went on record as favoring arbitration instead of war, referring particularly to the Mexican situation. It also pledged its support to the Young Judea Organization and the Aleph Zadek Aleph.
Joseph L. Kun, of Philadelphia, was elected president of the District.
