Thirteen student bodies united yesterday in a demand for the introduction of numerus clausus.
The campaign was launched in connection with the student elections for the coming term. Huge posters are displayed on the University walls demanding that only “pure Lithuanians” be elected to the students praesidium; that Lithuanian be the exclusive language of instruction; and that numerus clausus be introduced.
The Jewish press expressed disappointment at the attitude of the rector in permitting racial agitation to be conducted openly when the Jews are the targets.
The papers recall that last year when suppressing the Left wing student unions the rector asserted that he would energetically suppress all tendencies against the peaceable pursuit of studies.
