Thousands of policemen were scheduled to demonstrate Tuesday night against the bill adopted by the Knesset Monday forbidding the establishment of a police union. An amendment to the current police ordinance allows the Minister of Interior to establish a public council to deal with the policemen’s welfare. However, the amendment also enables the Minister to issue regulations which ban a police union. Several policemen have been on a hunger strike for several days in front of the Knesset in protest against the law.
