Three active Jewish communal leaders were elected to the Manitoba Provincial Assembly. Saul Cherniack, a 45-year-old attorney and national vice-president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, was elected for Winnipeg-St. Johns; Morris A. Gray, a veteran labor Zionist, was elected for Winnipeg-Inkster; and Maitland Steinkopf was elected for Winnipeg-River Heights. This is the first time the Manitoba legislature will have three Jewish members.
