Three Americans Honored at Haifa Technion; Awarded Science Degrees

Three distinguished Americans were today awarded honorary doctorates in science at ceremonies on the new campus here of the Israel Institute of Technology. Premier David Ben Gurion was present during the ceremonies.

Recipients of the degrees were: Gerard Swope, honorary life president of General Electric Company and a friend of the institute; F. Julius Fohs, geologist and petroleum engineer who has directed studies of Israel’s natural resources, and Abraham Tulin, chairman of the board of the American Technion Society.

Graduate studies at the Israel Institute of Technology have been enlarged and 25 percent more graduate students are registered at the Technion this year than last. The largest increase was registered by science students. Candidates for masters degrees number 120 this year against 98 last year, while candidates for doctorates are 37 against 26 last year.
